NB Power again

I've yet to see a convincing argument for NB retaining power of NB Power.
That was what I said in the original post the other day. I can't help but notice the comments disagreeing didn't make a counter case other than assuming, incorrectly, that I have not read up on it or I have fallen for propaganda. That's what I mean; there's hardly an argument against the sell off, let alone a convincing one.

It's all "how do we know what the rates will be"..."we can't sell to Quebec"...."it's our asset" etc.

Both here and other forums in NB I have said I should be against it and I've invited people to convince me. If there are good reasons...any reasons...it should be easy for someone to convince me but nobody seems to offer anything but indignation.

It's Liberal policy to sell and it's Conservative policy to oppose. The Conservatives are in opposition so, of course, they oppose. Especially when they see the political opportunity offered.

Apparently the Conservatives wanted to sell it previously, so what's changed...other than the Liberals have beaten them to doing something about it?

Well, to sell out a public asset for 0 dollars in return for a 5 year rate freeze, while the puppet masters of the province get a 30% cut is pretty good reason for both indignation and public rejection of the sale.

10 years down the road, we'll be back to square one, probably the debt run back up to the same levels as before (especially if the nuclear plant is a write off), and no offsetting income from what HQ expects to be a profitable enterprise. Rate payers will be paying Quebec with one hand and the leftover debts with the other, on top of all the pension money the people who built the infrastructure will draw from taxes.

If you want to read some extensive rebutal to the sell out, there is plenty of info available.
